A clear, modular roadmap to uplift a council's finance function

A New Zealand city council engaged Collabrix to assess how effectively SAP S/4HANA was supporting finance and procure-to-pay operations. Working across finance, digital and business teams, we built a clear view of current capability and where to focus.

We defined a prioritised roadmap, ranking initiatives by risk, impact and effort. This brought together core improvements in finance strategy, governance, reporting and capability with targeted changes such as invoice automation, streamlined delegation and stronger forecasting. Each initiative was aligned to a long-term finance direction and structured to be delivered progressively, in line with funding and priorities.

S/4HANA Finance data model · Global multi-brand sports group

A future-ready "one finance" data model spanning brands and regions

Working through a trusted SAP delivery partner, Collabrix led the foundational "Phase Zero" design of a global multi-brand sports and outdoor group's SAP S/4HANA Finance data model, unifying financial architecture across many international brands and regions into a single group finance model aligned across actuals, planning and consolidation.

At its core was a robust Universal Journal-based design that harmonises financial and management accounting across diverse ERP systems. We shaped the enterprise structure, including company codes, profit centres, segments and cost centres, and defined the field conventions, allocation frameworks and governance needed for real-time reporting at scale. We also advised on an accelerated, phased Central Finance rollout and a path to extend reporting through SAP Group Reporting, a blueprint that fed directly into the system integrator's solution design.

Simplifying a complex finance data model and laying an AI-ready foundation

Working through a trusted SAP delivery partner, Collabrix assessed the SAP S/4HANA finance data model of a global pharmaceutical company operating a single, large global instance. Originating from a brownfield conversion, the platform carried forward significant legacy ECC structures and customisations, limiting how effectively S/4HANA could support modern finance operations.

We built a clear view of how the current design was operating and where it could be simplified and better aligned to standard S/4HANA capability. This included defining a streamlined target model separating assured posting data from more flexible reporting structures, along with rationalised field usage and simplified derivation logic. We established a governed optimisation roadmap, combining immediate improvements with a structured path forward. This created a more consistent, reliable data foundation, designed to support scalable reporting, advanced analytics and emerging AI use cases across finance.
